Orange Pi RV2 is a single-board PC with an 8-core RISC-V processor

Last year Orange Pi introduced its first single-board computer with a quad-core RISC-V processor. Now the company is ready for round two: the Orange Pi RV2�is an updated model with an octa-core chip and a low starting price: it’s available now from AliExpress for $30 and up and could be available from Amazon soon as well.

As CNX Software points out, it’s interesting that you can already purchase this new board, since the original Orange Pi RV unveiled in 2024 has yet to go on sale, although it’s expected to be available soon.

The biggest difference between the two boars is that the Orange Pi RV has a 1.5 GHz StarFive JH7110 quad-core processor, while the new Orange Pi RV2 has a an octa-core Ky X1 chip with a 2 TOPS AI accelerator.

But the new model also has two Gigabit Ethernet ports instead of one, two PCIe 2.0 x2 connectors (one M.2 2280 and one M.2 2230) instead of one.

The $30 starting price is for a model with 2GB of LPDDR4X memory, but you can also opt for 4GB or 8GB models, which sell for $40 and $50, respectively.

Each version of the little computer measures 89 x 56mm (3.5″ x 2.2″) and features onboard support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 and a set of ports and connectors that includes:

Orange Pi says the board also supports up to a 128GB eMMC storage module and has pins that can be used to attach an RTC battery as well as a USB 2.0 4-pin header on the board. There are also boot, reset, and power buttons.

The Orange Pi RV2 works with a 5V/5A (25W) power adapter and the board supports Ubuntu 24.04 software. While I haven’t found many details about the Ky X1 chip powering the board, Orange Pi says that it offers 1.3X faster single-core performance than an ARM Cortex-A55 CPU. While that’s not super impressive for a new chip launching in 2025, it’s not bad at all for a RISC-V board in this price range.
