Retroid Pocket Classic is a compact gaming handheld with a 3.92 inch AMOLED display

The Retroid Pocket Classic is a new gaming handheld with an old-school design that’s heavily inspired by classic consoles like the Nintendo Game Boy. But with a 3.92 inch, 1240 x 1080 pixel, 500 nit AMOLED display and an unspecified 4nm Qualcomm processor, this little device has plenty of modern bits as well.

Retroid will begin selling the Pocket Classic on March 17, 2025 with prices starting at $119 for a model with 4GB of LPDDR4x-2133 RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. There’s also a 6GB/128GB model that costs just $10 more… making me wonder why anyone would bother with the cheaper model.

While Retroid makes a habit of offering several different color options for its handhelds, the Pocket Classic goes one step further by offering a choice of buttons as well… sort of.

If you opt for the Classic6 design, you’ll get a system with D-Pad on the left and six action buttons on the right, which could make it a good fit for fighting classic games. Meanwhile the “Retro,” “Berry,” “Teal,” “Kiwi,” “PKM Yellow,” and “Atomic Purple” models all have a more traditional 4-button layout with X,Y, A, and B buttons.

All models also have three additional front-facing buttons for Start, Select, and… some other function. And the handheld also has L1, L2, R1, and R2 shoulder buttons on the back.

Other features include a 5,000 mAh battery, support for 27W charging with a USB-C power adapter, a 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot, and support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity.

The Retroid Pocket Classic measures 138 x 90 x 26mm (5.4″ x 3.5″ 1″) and weighs 223 grams (7.9 ounces) and has a fan inside the case for active cooling.

It ships with Android 14 software.
